Tory Bravado
A rather cavalier statement in today’s Durham Times from the Tories.
They claim that the Lib Dems cannot defeat Labour over the whole County, so therefore people should vote Conservative. Somewhat strange logic as we have 93 candidates, they have only 70 and 64 is needed for an overall majority (half of 126 is 63). If this is the quality of their argument, no wonder people still don’t believe anything they say.

You can’t have it both ways Nigel. Your own leaflets try to write off Coservative chances in Neville’s Cross stating that ‘only the Lib Dems can beat Labour here’ based on the result of a past election - yet the same logic looking at the results of the 2005 County wide elections do show that the Liberals have not a chance of running the new Council.
Well, Michael, you would say that wouldn’t you. I can only point out that with only 70 candidates across the County and 3 local councillors outside of Teesdale, compared to 93 Lib Dem Candidates and 60 Lib Dem local councillors in the same area, the evidence is somewhat stacked against you.
And a little bird tells me that the Conservatives are targetting just a handful of seats across the County.
There’s £10 to your favourite charity if you get into double figures on the new council.
[For the uninitiated Teesdale will contribute 6 seats to the new 126-seat council, and on the basis of the 2005 results the Conservatives would get just 4 seats at County Hall, all in Teesdale.]
Ok Michael, it was a close run thing, but the Conservatives did just get into double figures on the county seats.
I will live up to my word. Let me know your nominated charity and I will send it a tenner.
